The madame who lived in loft region--Impressive logo and envision images, great idea; think about more interactive activities rather than only attracting citizens with some artworks, but try to let them create sth by themselves such as clay workshop with crafts bazaar, or some tailor workshop...

Michelle-- think about how to put foot down, find out the supports from the businessmen or owners of buildings in this community, they may help to actualize and enrich the program. check my website..

The big guy-- why you choose this specific region of the community, think more and more various ideas of the events what can happens in this region and show them in the images.

The woman as practitioner in urban designing-- great idea, nice presentation, think about combine the program with specific facilities or infrastructures such as design some facilities for flea market.

Julie-- specific infrastructure design; what about organize a real art event such as choose a certain place in the community, buy some canvas and painting materials and make the advertisement, contact with artist group to create graffiti?

Jai-- nice presentation. Think more about marketing, who will come to participate each sub theme of your carnival.; rethink about the color use, make it more striking; think about the art programs in current situations as anchors and than find the best path to make the linkage, finally try to strengthen the value of the path, branding the carnival, focus more on how people can enjoy themselves through the various events along the path and each anchors. overlap the events map and make them into a network through the linkage.

Thank you all for giving me so much advice and suggestions for my ART CARNIVAL, and still sorry for that I cannot remember all the name of guests!

LONDON RAILWAY ARCHES CONVERTED INTO MODERN LOFT APARTMENTS [PICS]

The city of London features architecture that is both old and new, often built right on top of each other. As space becomes more of an issue, some firms have started finding new purposes for old structures – railway bridges being a prime example.

Railway bridges are responsible for holding up hundreds of kilometers of rail around the city. Despite this noble purpose, the arches underneath them have little to no actual use.

There are some that have been converted into boutique shops, and even offices in some cases. Following in this trend, CSRArchitects wants to turn the railway arches into loft-style apartments for people to live in.

Each end of an arch would be closed off with a wall which incorporates upward-facing skylights. Inside, exposed brick walls would accent the two-level lofts.

The only problem to deal with would be the regular passage of trains overhead. Whether or not there is a way to reduce the noise remains to be seen. Click through the images below to see more specs of the apartments.

Space Transformation

During the research process, I found some interesting points which I can work on.  Finally I choose to focus on transforming the space under bridge. I think this topic is not just for the Loft District but for whole Philly. There are so many viaducts in Philly and so much negative space under those bridges.

Strategys；

a.     Bring in new function

There are so much space there under the bridges, we can transform that into semi-open commercial space, or space for community activities and so go. London even change the railway arches into modern loft apartments. There are so many possibilities for the space.

    

b. New facilities for the streets go under the bridge. For now I just came up this the idea of add some interesting lighting project or change the floor material, but I think this is my most potential idea.

C. In the long run, if Pilly’s ‘High Line Park’ really happens, the under space should be used more as the connection between the park and the ground. For the connection, many ways could work not just stairs. Maybe I can do some thing about the connection part.

These are my rough ideas about campaign, I will do more research and finally focus on one of them or choose a special site and combine them together.

Reading Viaduct "Worst Case Scenario"

Gov't Shutdown / Martial Law / Prison
In the past few days, the political stalemate has led to the shutdown of the United States Government.  Many stories have concentrated on the political action in Washington, however fewer have concentrated on the pop-up prison in the Callowhill Neighborhood of Philadelphia.
